Ephemera of the 1940s.
This is, of course, the crucial period when Traditional Jazz
(as opposed to Swing, Bop &c.) first flowered in the UK.
Birmingham. and other cities, were swift to adopt this new, vigorous and democratic music as Peace took the place of War. The first Traditional Jazz Concert was organised by Louis Brunton, and took place in the Town Hall on December 13th 1946. Alas, we have no original programme, though there must have been one? But happily, in
1948 a booklet covering the first six concerts of 1946-47 was published, and we are privileged to present a scan of it, from the Archive of the late Bill Dean-Myatt.
